learning cuurrrvvvve

This is just. hmm, what's the word? Oh yes, interesting. So, now I gotta learn an entirely new computer system, an entirely new graphics package, on top of keeping my hand in with filing and bookkeeping (which I'm still not up to speed on) and train someone who has come in to help me.

I'm sick of having money flowing steadily out as I set up, so we're also starting a new sideline business the week after next. at least I'll have SOME money coming in. It's a sideline which'll help the main one eventually anyway.

Too busy to talk. Kinda tired too.

Up for the Challenge Anne.

Setting up a website

I want to set up a website...but wouldnt know where to start. Im a quick learner and can learn easily from manuals, could I set it up myself..? If so, what software would I need?

I would pay to get good software but would it be better to try and outsource it?

Website, DIY or outsource.

Really, you don't want to look amaturish, and if you don't know how to do it, you will. A website is the face of your business, the first face that many people will see.

On the other hand you might be an absolute genius and get it down pat first time and put all the professionals to shame.

If you were a gambler, which would you bet on?

Also, I wouldn't even think about about getting a website for the business up until the business is nearly ready to go, simply because things can change so much in the planning stages.

Whatever you do, good luck.

Anne

...it depends

I think it really depends on what you want your web presence to achieve for you. For example, are you selling on the net? If so, there are lots of ready made ecommerce shops available and there are some very good ones available through opensource (so basically, you don't have to pay for it). Magento or oscommerce are examples.

You can also get quite professional looking results using frontpage or dreamweaver by in my view these are quite limited.

If you really want to get into the books and programming and stuff, have a look into visual web developer - free download from microsoft. Don't underestimate the task though - it's huge!

....and then you have to get it hosted somewhere. Look on the net for web hosting packages - there are loads.

If I were you, i'd try to get a feel for what's involved, what you want from it and how much time you have and then decide.

Good luck.
